The EasyHails electronic hails system is available for the hook-and-line groundfish fisheries on the
Pacific coast of Canada, and is under development for the groundfish fisheries in the
Northeastern USA.
To use EasyHails to place hail calls from your boat...
...you will require the following equipment onboard your vessel:
- A Windows-based computer with Windows XP or a more recent version of Windows installed
- A compatible web browser on the computer (e.g. Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher, or
Firefox version 3.0 or higher)
- A satellite communication device that allows the computer to connect to the Internet (e.g. a
satellite modem or phone that can be connected to the computer), or a
Skymate or Boatracs device that connects to the computer for satellite
e-mail communcation.
If you are a hook-and-line commercial groundfish fisher in British Columbia...
...and you have (or plan to obtain) the necessary equipment, please fill-in

At that time we'll ask for some specific details about you and your vessel in order to aid
in configuring the software for you.
If you are a fisher, sector manager, or dockside monitoring contractor in the
Northeastern USA...
We plan to make EasyHails available through sector managers or dockside monitoring firms. We will know more
as NOAA/NMFS refines the rules and when dockside monitoring contractors have been selected by the sectors.
We also suggest that you contact your sector manager to inquire about EasyHails.
